When we first started selling on eBay, we had things stashed in cupboards...then sneaking across the floor, then creeping out of our small extra bedroom. eBay quickly took over our house and left us having nightmares. Things were impossible to find when they sold and new inventory had no spot in our house. Our fire and pride of starting our own business slowly faded away as we started to look more like hoarders than anything. We finally hit the point where if we wanted to continue to grow our business (and stay sane), we needed a reliable method to store eBay inventory. While it may not be for everyone, this is what we've found to keep our eBay inventory organized! Let's break it down into steps so we can better see the journey we have taken thus far:
Quitting your job. Working for yourself. Everybody's dream. Or even better, next time your boss is being a jerk, being able to tell him, "Hang on a second, I don't actually need this job, I don't need your money, and I certainly don't need to deal with abuse from you simply so I can stay here and get a miserable paycheck!"
Reselling on eBay has been responsible for paying many of our bills, sending us on vacation, and padding our savings account. We were recently thinking about the ramifications of me leaving my job and working on eBay full time. Luckily, we did all the math and asked ourselves a few tough questions before I just impulsively told my boss to shove it! If you're thinking about heading out on your own, ask yourself these three questions first:
Everyone I know that sells on eBay ultimately does it for the same reason - to make money. Whether you do it to declutter your house and help you pay rent (us a year ago) or pay for a trip to Costa Rica (us now), profit is the ultimate goal. There are dozens of how-to's explaining how to source things, how to ship things, how to deal with returns etc.; but these things are only dreams to some people because their items just won't sell! So let's talk about 6 things that we've learned we need to do to hear that "cha-ching" daily!
My wife and I are a young couple, still in school, and doing our best not only to make ends meet, but to excel! We feel like we have so much to offer and can kick this world's butt if we can just get on our feet. Join our journey!
